Pole Kissed - Jewelie Elsbree
I didn’t choose the pole life, the pole life chose me.
It’s an incredible feeling when you find your “thing” in life, whatever it may be. Mine just happens to be pole dancing. And yours might be too. Now wait, before you say no, let me explain what it means to be a true pole dancer…
Are We All Handmaids?
It isn’t that one moment in time with a man I barely knew that sits with me. It’s not his hands in places they don’t belong or the sweet scent of unfamiliar cologne flooding my nostrils that weighs on my chest. It’s the fact that I called foul, rang the alarm, stood up with bones quivering to demand justice…and it wasn’t enough…
What's It Like Being a USPDF Judge?
So has anyone been watching The Handmaids Tale?! Season 2 just ended a few weeks ago and to be honest, it’s taken me this much time to even start to recover from the drama. For anyone who hasn’t heard of it (where have you been?!!), it’s a show on Hulu based on a book of the same name by Margaret Atwood. In a nasty little nutshell, it’s a future dystopian society called Gilliad, where women called “Handmaids” have one sole purpose: they’re forced to bear children for the all powerful patriarchs…
Our very own Antoine Du Pole is judging this year’s USPDF Competition again! We picked his brain about his experience and what he’s looking for in a champ. Check it out!
Reaching New Heights With Pole Dancing
Pole instructor and owner of Pole position Dance Studio, Taylor Starke, said the studio's main goal is, "fighting monotony." It’s easy to get stuck in a hum drum routine Starke said --work, home, kids, bills. Rise, repeat.
At Pole Positon, that tedium evaporates. "People come and dance to the music on-beat, off-beat, flip your hair, don't flip your hair. It doesn't matter," she said. "Really, our group of people just want to have a really good time."
I must admit that I’ve always been intrigued by pole dancing.
Not as an entertainment but as an art form.
Maybe it’s the ability of the dancers to support their body weight in a manner that appears effortless. Maybe it’s the toning and conditioning benefits that follow the mastery of each new technique. Or perhaps it’s the celebration of femininity, conveyed through sensual movements.
