Hello, My Name Is: Pole Position
Who are we, really? Why is there a collection of crazy people begging you to feel free and live your best life? What are you getting yourself into signing up for a class?!
Allow us to introduce ourselves with a few examples to let you know how we get down.
If Pole Position was a song we would be Queen by Jessie J; our anthemic sound of self love blaring though your speakers as a constant reminder that you are everything and more. The use of the word “queen” here does not mean we are a female only studio. Trust, we will celebrate and yell YAAAAASSSSS to any and every human who wants to be in our space moving their lovely bones. We’re on a mission to dismantle this constant idea of needing to be someone else or something else to be deemed worthy. We’ll spend every day reminding you how bad ass you really are, regardless of who you are. Jessie sings, “I love my body, I love my skin,” and we’re just over here emphatically nodding and giving her snaps. Okurrrrr?
If Pole Position had celebrity best friends they would definitely be Rihanna and Jonathan Van Ness (note: if you’ve never seen Queer Eye, stop IMMEDIATELY and turn on your Netflix). Ri Ri is our best friend in our head because she is the epitome of unapologetic, poised, and fierce. When you’re not sure if you should wear the risky outfit, you need a friend that says, “Hello, you can wear whatever you damn well please.” That’s us and Ri Ri. We got you.
Now, the effervescent JVN is our bestie in our head because he SLAYS, Hunni. Forever eschewing gender normative vibes, JVN is out here giving us life like nobody’s business. He is also the world’s #1 cheerleader. He’s giving us volume, he's giving us encouragement, he’s giving us tears of literal joy. When you feel awkward trying to do that pole trick for the first time and also somehow make it look effortless, don't you need a friend to break their vocal cords cheering you on like you’re actually Beyonce? Hi, it’s us and JVN.
If Pole Position was a gif it would be this one right here because our community of dancers is unmatched. No one’s competing with you, no one’s judging you. You think you’re gonna come to class and not make a friend? Good luck. This studio has a reputation for rolling deep and cheering loudly everywhere we go and all you have to do to be a part of this family is show up, just as you are.
And, finally, if Pole Position was an exotic bird it would be this Secretary bird because, well, look at her.
